Ministry of Health Marmara University Prof. Dr. Asaf Ataseven Hospital has put into service after the ceremony held in his honor by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Rector of  Marmara University Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar gave information in his speech about the Marmara University Recep Tayyip Erdogan Complex, whose foundations were laid in 2019 and construction works are continuing.

Özvar stated that the complex has an exceptional location within the boundaries of Maltepe, facing the D-100 highway, taking advantage of airport and rail system facilities, in an airy and sea view location, covering an area of ​​270 hectares.

Expressing that the allocation of the complex is a historical turning point for the university, Özvar stated that the faculties of Marmara University which are distributed to various districts of Istanbul will be gathered around a single complex.

Pointing out a science city of 70 thousand people including scientists, administrative staff, stakeholders and students from the private and public sector, Özvar said, "this complex with its architecture, planning, scientific and technological infrastructure, self-sufficiency, and zero waste to the outside is an exemplary model for friends and foreigners”.

Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar emphasized that the social complex project continues rapidly by taking measures to minimize the negative effects of the Kovid-19 pandemic process.

Özvar, who also gave information about the hospital, reminded that construction workings started on October 7, 1991, in order to establish a new hospital of Marmara University, which has been serving as the only university hospital on the Anatolian Side of Istanbul for years in Altunizade.

Explaining that the construction of the hospital, which was started with the participation of the President Süleyman Demirel during the time of the deceased Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Batırel,  Rector of Marmara University, is planned as 120 thousand square meters and 600 beds, Özvar continued as follows:

"The construction activities that have been going on with the interruptions for many years have finally reached a happy ending by order of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In 2018, our university signed an affiliation protocol with the Ministry of Health to serve together. I would like to commemorate the superior efforts of the Istanbul Governorship Istanbul Project Coordination Unit and the great work of the Ministry of Health to bring the hospital in line with the regulations in force. "

In his speech at Prof. Dr. Asaf Ataseven Hospital Opening Ceremony, President Erdoğan:  “I believe that it is also important to bring such a work to our country during the epidemic when we understand the value of health much better than before.  In every crisis, we are discovering again the value of the distance in the field of Turkey's infrastructure and basic services in the last 18 years" he said.

President Erdoğan congratulated those who contributed to bringing the hospital to Istanbul and said, “We decided to name our hospital 'Prof.Dr. Asaf Ataseven Hospital'. Hopefully, we will remember this place with his name. ”

Explaining that Asaf Ataseven is a true believer and foundation person and enshrined in memories with his efforts and success in the Chief Physician of Vakıf Gureba Hospital for many years, President Erdoğan commemorated him with mercy and read al Fatiha.
