‘’A Feeling Transforming into Violence’’ Seminar

Dr. Murat Dokur talked about the concepts of violence and emotion, violence against women, gender inequality in society and gender roles in his speech.

Underlining that violence cannot be prevented without recognizing the individual, who is prone to violence. Dokur said  ‘’It is necessary to reach the characteristics that feed the structure of the individuals who tend to harm the other person’’. He argued that the individual who tends to harm should be examined from his childhood to the family members.

Underlining that violence is the most important issue of family therapy, Dokur emphasized the importance of attitudes in the family to prevent violence. He underlined that women are exposed to psychological violence by their husbands when they do not have economic freedoms and that women should gain economic freedom in order not to experience this situation.

He  stated that, especially during the flirting period, men's violence against women could be eliminated by not ignoring them. The fact that couples put prohibitions on each other and that their interference in the clothing of the partner was psychological violence, he emphasized that the spouses should end the psychological violence by reacting instead of normalizing it.

Violence cannot be avoided unless the wrong attitudes in family and couple relations are corrected. He argued that because of the privileges shown to the boys in raising the children, the perception that the male is superior to women in the child is developed and that this situation has led to violence against women and women should be educated to prevent this.

The seminar ended with  questions-answer section.
