Professor Hasan Batırel's study was awarded the 2018 First Prize in International Publication at the 22nd Turkish Thoracic Society Congress. The work of Batırel was published in the June 2018 issue of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. The study on the treatment of mesothelioma (lung membrane cancer) disease was deemed worthy of this award because it included only the data of the patients treated in our country and was published in the most important journal in the field.

Professor Hasan Fevzi Batırel and his team investigated in this study how surgical strategy in lung cancer affects the results. In the study conducted with approximately 250 patients, regular patient data were collected, and the result obtained from 150 patients was presented in the article. Speaking on the base of datas, he said “We used to do bigger surgeries. With this study, we realized that we could do smaller surgeries. By this way,  we can reduce the trauma in patients.
