Mert Özdemir ,drifting with the current in the sea to cool off on July 22,2018 did not catch the guard of stairs. Emirhan Polat, who wanted to save his friend, also jumped into the sea. But the violent current began to drag in two young people. The two young people who drifted up to the point of Yeniköy, where the current is the most severe, shouted at the coastal citizens for help. At the same time, the Lecturer in Faculty of Sport Sciences at our university, who is also volunteer at the Search and Rescue Society at Sea for another mission in the region, Instructor Orkun Pevlan and the volunteer team intervened by hearing the sounds coming from the shore. Orkun Pelvan, who caught Mert Özdemir under the water of 1 meter by jumping into the sea, made the first interventions. Orkun Pelvan said, "When we asked for help from the shore, our captain immediately moved on. When I saw the sinking of someone on the surface of the water, I skipped the botton. Maybe we could save it with just a few seconds. The current can reach 4 knots (7 km) in that region. Everyone needs to be very careful. It might be too late for two young people if we were not in Yeniköy.’’
