Invited by Rector of Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Rocky S. Tuan and Vice Rector Prof. Fanny Cheung within the scope of "Bridging Sound and Culture" project, Marmara University's academicians introduced Turkish Music and culture.
The project of "Bridging Sound and Culture", which started at CUHK in 2018 under the direction of Professor Fred Lau, focuses on various cultures and musical traditions that exist on the historical Silk Road.
The program focused on Turkish Culture and music was held in Hong Kong with the title of "Bridging Sound and Culture Concert Series". The first stage of the project prepared jointly between China Hong Kong University and Marmara University was conducted by Prof. Dr. Seyfi Kenan.
The program included conferences, presentations and concerts that was held with the participation of graduate students from Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education, Department of Music Education. Within the scope of the program lasting a week, Turkish culture, Sufi music in Turkey, Turkish classical music and Turkish folk music themed conferences was performed. In addition to the Turkish Music Concert performed by the Marmara University Turkish Music Ensemble with valuable contributions of Prof. Mustafa Uslu, an exhibition titled "Echoes from Anatolia: Images from Turkish Classical and Folk Music" was also held.
Mustafa Demirci (Kanun), Ali Kocakaya (Baglama), Hasan Sakarya (Accordion), Sibel Sakarya (Vocalist), Murtaza Tunç (Mey, Ney, Duduk & Kaval), Yasin Yiğit (Bendir, Percussion) took place as musicians in the Project.
