In the project to be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to detect the presence of the Kovid-19 virus in water and wastewater and to develop an early warning system against possible risks, Assoc. Prof. Bilge Alpaslan from Marmara University will act as a consultant.
In the scope of the project to be carried out under the presidency of Turkish Water Institute (SUEN), with the coordination of Prof.Dr. Ahmet Mete Saatçi, Founding Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, and in consultation with Assoc.Prof. Bilge Alpaslan Kocamemi from the Department of Environmental Engineering and Molecular Biologist Dr.Halil Kurt, 24-hour composite samples will be taken from inputs and outputs of the wastewater treatment plants throughout Turkey in order to detect the presence of the Covid-19 virus in the water and waste water.
The sampling works will also be supported by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ). The Quantitative PCR (qPCR) data analysis of samples taken and Covid-19 quantification will be tested in the laboratories of Veterinary Control Central Research Institute.
