A panel titled the "Importance Of Communication And The Idea Of Religion In The Struggle against FETÖ" was held in the Üzümcü Conference Hall which is located in the Göztepe campus. The panel started with a memorial video about the brave martyrs of the 15th of Jully which was followed up by a reading of Qur'an by Prof. Dr. Safi from the Faculty of Theology.
Prof. Rector. Dr. Erol Özvar who gave the opening speech of the panel emphasized that we came together on the anniversary of a very important day in the name of national unity and solidarity. Professor Erol Özvar said in his speech; "On 15th July three years ago, our nation stood up for its will, democracy and the future with its life and blood. 251 martyrs have fallen for this cause, over 2000 people have lost their families and loved ones. It has been declared to the world that no one can do anything with tanks and rifles unless our nation permits it. In the words of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ‘Our nation never took a step back, even in the face bullets, bombs and threats, even when they see people being shot in front of their eyes.‘ Our nation held a historic stance against this coup attempt by working hand in hand with members of our police and Turkish Armed Forces who had acted against the coup plotters. The people of our nation who stood up for its country and its future with their stand against the military-looking terrorist, especially in the neutralization of fully armed and operational tanks, wrote numerous heroic epics throughout the night. Old and young folk alike, our nation stood as one against the conspirators without regard for social ideology, party, status or standing within society."
Professor Dr. Serhat Ulağlı started the panel “The Importance Of Communication And The Idea Of Religion In The Struggle against FETÖ" by thanking everyone who had a hand in the organization of the event and our rector Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar. In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Serhat Ulağlı has answered questions such as: "The state of our fight against FETÖ, what can be done about it, what is the criteria to fight against FETÖ and whether FETÖ is a religious community or a terrorist organization." Prof. Dr. Serhat Ulağlı talked about topics such as: "The characteristics of religious communities, a hierarchical structure of terörist organizations, structuring of FETÖ and the organization's ideological propaganda strategy. Professor Dr. Ulağlı finished his speech by emphasizing the importance of understanding July 15th.
Professor Dr. İsmail Taşpınar emphasized the Importance of perception of religion in combating FETÖ in his presentation. Professor Dr. İsmail Taşpınar began his speech by wishing mercy to the martyrs, praying for the fast recovery of our veterans and by giving his condolences to the families of the fallen. In his speech he gave extensive information about topics such as religion and belief in public life, new religious movements, the spirit of service and the spirit of self interest in organizations, FETÖ and its globalized structure, the similarities of FETÖ and various terrorist organizations of the world, Fetö in finance and banking and the abuse of religion done by FETÖ. He concluded his speech by mentioning the duties of academicians in the fight against this terrorist organization.
The events continued with the photo exhibition of Victory of Democracy and Commemoration Day of the Martyrs at the Republic Museum and Art Gallery in Sultanahmet Complex.
In his opening speech, our rector stated that what our nation did on the 15th of Jully three years ago was a monumental statement against treason and betrayal. He said that no one could do anything against this country unless the nation wanted it and that the will of the nation could be manifested not only in parliament but in the streets as well. Within the scope of the event, along with the photography exhibition, the documentary titled "Resistance of Hearts" was screened. The documentary told the story of 6 heroic women as they resisted the coup of the terrorist organization in the night of 15th of Jully and it was prepared by our Corporate Communication Coordinator Assoc. Dr. Kübra Yiğitbaşı and directed by Rengin Gültekin. Regarding the documentary, our Rector Prof. Dr. Özvar has said that nothing could be changed without the women's consent.
After the opening statements, the participants toured the exhibition.
