The opening of “100th Anniversary National Symposium for the Victory Year of the National Struggle 1922” organized by Marmara University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences History Department was held on 29 November 2022, at the İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall, Goztepe Campus.
The opening speeches of the symposium were made by Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Sebahat Deniz and Head of the History Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Fehmi Yilmaz. Talking about the developments in the national struggle process, Prof.Dr. Kurt said in his speech, "I commemorate with mercy and gratitude all the heroes of the national struggle, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who saved the country from occupation exactly 100 years ago, while Turkey was passing through the ring of fire."
Prof. Dr. Fehmi Yılmaz mentioned the important developments in in the process of national struggle and said "we are a state, we will continue to be a state". In his speech, he said "The success achieved in the national struggle is the result of a patient and long- running effort". Prof. Dr. Sebahat Deniz said, “In this symposium, all aspects of 1922 will be discussed and papers based on first-hand sources will be presented.”
After the opening speeches, the first two sessions of the symposium were completed by the speeches of academicians from various universities. Other sessions of the event will be held on 30 November 2022 at the İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall.
