Istanbul Provincial President of the Directorate General of Press and Information Necmettin Altuntaş expressed harms of the addictions to the individuals, families and the society and he emphasized that not only health, education and security organizations but also all the state institutions and organizations, nongovernmental organizations and particularly the media have a great contribution to the fighting against the addictions.  Vice Chairperson of the Turkish Green Crescent Society Mehmet Akif Seylan mentioned that addictions precisely aim at young people and the addictions do not only consist of drug but smoking, alcohol, gambling and technology, also. Seylan emphasized the importance of the preventive services and that the press organizations and association play an important role in the fighting against addictions.

In the scope of Uyuşturucu Madde Bağımlılığı Yetişkin Eğitimi (Adult Education on Drug Abuse), the related topics are discussed around questions such like What is an drug addiction? , What is like the progress of the being addicted? and What are deceptive beliefs about the addiction?. After the seminar, Istanbul University Faculty of Communication lecturer Prof. Ali Murat informed about the key points that should be taken into consideration while making news on the drug abuse. Vural also mentioned that there has been a great campaign against the drug abuse by the government and said “On this matter, there is a need of delegates and these delegates are the press.”. Vural also emphasized that it is necessary to avoid using encouraging phrases while making news about the drug abuse and news must be respectful to the privacy of the individual and not include promotive photographs as far as possible.
