‘’Postgraduate Iran Workshop’’

Assoc. Prof. Ali Early and Dr. Lecturer Selin M. Bölme hosted the Workshop. In the morning session of the workshop, the focus was on methodology, resource research, archives and field studies. Prof. Dr. Osman Gazi Özgüdenli (Marmara University Institute of Turcology),  Prof. Dr. İsmail Safa Üstün (Marmara University Faculty of Theology), Lecturer Serhan Afacan (Medeniyet University, Department of History), Lecturer Turgay Şafak (Medeniyet University, Department of Persian Language and Literature) moderated the workshop. In the session, moderators and students shared their experiences. Difficulties encountered in the studies their solutions were discussed. Students were also advised about what should be the qualifications of an academician aiming to become an expert on the ‘’Iran’’ subject.

 In the afternoon, the workshop continued with four parallel sessions in which the students were divided according to their fields of study. Topics such as  ‘’Iranian Foreign Policy and Security’’,   "Iran-Turkey Relations",’Iranian History and Society’’ , ’’Iranian Culture and Society’’ were discussed, which were headed respectively by Assoc.Prof. Ali Balcı, Dr. Lecturer Serhan Afacan , Prof. Dr. Osman G. Özgüdenli and Dr. Lecturer Turgay Şafak. During the workshop, the students had the opportunity to share their knowledge and findings in their thesis writing process and to discuss the thesis topics with the guidance of the moderators.

At the closing session attended by all faculty members and students, the specialized establishments in the field of Iran in Turkey and the necessity of duplication of specialized programs in this area were emphasized. The benefits of the programs that bring together the people working in this field and its impact on the students were evaluated. The students stated that the information they gained during the workshop and the feedback they gained gave great support to the thesis writing process. During the workshop, it was decided that the discussions that were recorded by the rapporteurs were written in a short notice and announced on the web site of the institute.
