Related Departments of Marmara University focused on various topics for 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial entitled “Are We Human?” by Curators Mark Wigley and Beatrice Uzunöz in The Academy Programme.
Department of Sculpture attended biennial with 6 projects under Prof. Şeyma Üstüner Uzunöz’s tutelage. Respectively, Ahmet Yörük “Bir Şeyler Doğru Hissettirmiyor (Something Feels Funny)”, Arif Çekderi “Seni Daha İyi Isırabilmek İçin (Ağzı Dalaşı İçin Protez) (All the Better to Bite You Wih [Prosthesis for Squabble]), Aslı İrhan “Labyrinth”, Ersin Uysal “Mask”, Halil Daşkesen “Body of Place” and Volkan Keçebaş “Obedience” attended the biennial with the projects addressing human, body and place relationship while Department of Interior Design attended with projects entitled “Island”. The project “Island” under Prof. Meltem Eti Proto’s tutelage focused on ideas of communication, interaction, belonging and being discovered. Faculty of Fine Arts was chosen as the project area due to the fact that the campus area is an important part of public sphere where knowledge is shared.
Assoc. Prof. Tonguç Tokol, Asst. Assoc. Prof. Seylan Öztürk and academicians Mehmet Ali Müstecaplioğlu and Mustafa Bilge Satkin, and research assistants Ceren Sağlam and İlayda Soyupak made contribution to the project under Prof. Meltem Eti Proto’s tutelage. Students designed projects as follows: Ali Can Gül, Ahmet Büyüksofuoğlu, Arzum Öztürk, Atilla Saffet Türkoğlu, Begüm Batur, Burhan Çakıroğlu, Büşra Balota, Büşra Güneş, Büşra Yazıcı, Ceren Koç Sağlam, Çağrı Uludüz, Elif Engin, Emre Esen, Engin Demirkasaoğlu, Fatih Çukur, Haluk Çakır, Hande Taşkın, İlayda, Soyupak, Mehmet Macid Aksu, Medet Gençalp, Merve Yılmaz, Nedim Alici, Özlem Kale, Parıjahan Alıyeva, Pınar Özer, Sefa Çavdar, Sümeyye Erva Aytekin, Yaşar Güney and Yavuz Girgin.
Department of Ceramic and Glass student Sine Canlı designed a project entitled “Disidentification” under academician Burcu Keskin’s tutelage.
Department of Textile attended the biennial with three different projects. Knitting Group consisting of Nigar Demirtay, Büşra Balota, Nülüfer Ünay Çubukçu, Aslıhan Sevinçli, Dilara Gülsen Ateş, Duygu Tong Berkoğlu and Fatma Büyüksofuoğlu designed a project entitled “Oversteping Limits” under Prof. Biret Tavman’s tutelage.
Departments of Textile Weaving Project entitled “Uncomfortable” was carried out by Prof. Günay Atalayer, academicians Şafak Akalın and Başak Özdemir. , Başak Özdemir, Nilüfer Ünay Çubukçu, Lütfiye Gül Gündüz, Maşide Lyoçi, Ebru Dikmen, Büşra Balota, Cihan Bahar, Melike Güral, İlknur Karabulut took part in the project.
Department of Textile “Clothing” Group consisting of Nigar Demirtay, Aslihan Sevinçli and Fikri Temel designed a project entitled “Entropy” reinterpreting designed objects unable to resist time under Assoc. Prof. Yeşim Bağrışen’s tutelage.
The exhibit opened on October 21, 2016 will be continued until December 21, 2016.
